Pay for training and myofascial therapy with your HSA or FSA

Learn How Here!

Use your HSA or FSA at TruFit!

If your doctor recommends exercise or bodywork for a health condition, you may be able to pay for it with pre-tax dollars you've already set aside. Being able to do that takes a letter of medical necessity (LMN), which is a short note from a licensed provider connecting your care to that condition.

We've partnered with Burst to help you pay for your personal training, group fitness classes, and/or myofascial therapy with your FSA or HSA. Burst charges $20 to review your eligibility. If you qualify, you'll receive a Letter of Medical Necessity valid for one year. If you don't qualify, Burst refunds the $20 in full.

Once you have your LMN, your personal training sessions, group fitness classes, and myofascial therapy sessions with Lou can be reimbursed in full (which Burst can also take care of for you).

How it works
  1. Book and pay your trainer or practitioner as you normally would, by Zelle, Venmo, any way you always do. Nothing changes on our end EXCEPT that your trainer/practitioner will provide you with a receipt or invoice. Just make sure to ask for one as they may not know you'll be using HSA/FSA.
  2. Get your letter of medical necessity here. Answer a short health questionnaire that a licensed provider reviews. If approved, you'll have your letter within 24 hours. You can also go through your own provider, of course.
  3. Get reimbursed. You can file the claim yourself (reimbursements typically take 5-10 business days) or you can have Burst file the claim, and your reimbursement comes back to you in 1-2 business days (there is a 5% fee for this).

Questions people ask:

What is an FSA or HSA?
A Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account lets you set aside money from your paycheck before taxes to spend on health expenses. Because that money was never taxed, using it is like getting 30 to 40% off of your service, depending on your tax rate.

What makes training or bodywork eligible?
A letter of medical necessity is what does it. If a licensed provider confirms that exercise or bodywork helps treat a health condition you're managing, your sessions become a reimbursable health expense rather than a general fitness purchase.

What is a letter of medical necessity?
A short note from a licensed provider stating that your care treats a specific health condition. It's the piece that makes reimbursement possible, and it typically covers you for a year.

Do I need an FSA or HSA debit card?
Nope! Pay your trainer/practitioner as you normally would, get your receipt, and Burst can handle getting the money back to you afterward.

Does everyone qualify?
Not everyone. A licensed provider reviews your questionnaire and decides, and they'll be looking for a specific health condition that your training or bodywork helps with. It takes a few minutes to find out and if you do not qualify, your $20 fee is returned to you.
